From Mama to Mompreneur – How Amy Built A #Girlboss Biz

May 22, 2019

Amy loved being a mom, but something was missing. She had always dreamed of starting her own business and with two small boys she needed the flexibility of being her own boss. So, when Amy found the Alice’s Table Exec Program, she was thrilled to find an opportunity that combined her creativity, love of flowers, and the opportunity to start a business with support from a proven model. Between hockey practice, play dates, and the everyday mom to-dos, Amy has built an unbelievable business, and we know this is just the beginning. Today, we’re so excited to share her inspirational story and the true meaning of #momprenuer.

Starting a business can be scary, there is a lot of unknown and excitement at the same time. What was your inspiration behind launching your Alice’s Table business?

To put it plain and simple, I just fell in love with Alice's Table and the Event Exec Program! I'm a stay at home mom to two young boys and the opportunity to be my own boss and create my own schedule was exactly what I was looking for. I love having this platform to collaborate with other female entrepreneurs and local small businesses. Being part of a community that empowers women and teaches them a new skill is so fulfilling. You can convey so much with flowers; love, friendship, sympathy, joy and I get to be a part of that. I help bring a little bit of beauty into the lives of some pretty amazing people that come to my events and I'm so grateful for that.

Was there a moment that you realized you had made the perfect decision?

When I attended our first annual Exec conference in 2017 and then again, at our second conference in 2018 in Chicago. The wonderful community and women that I met were unbelievable. Our third conference is in just a few weeks and I cannot wait!

Aside from being a busy mom, you know how to hustle! In the past few years, you’ve hosted over 200 events and have an impressive line-up (of sold out we might add!) events planned. What has been one of your most rewarding moments so far?

Do I have to pick just one?! I have an AT moment at just about every event I host, but my first moment was actually at my second event! There was one woman who got so frustrated with her arrangement that she took the whole thing apart on the very last step! I sat in the seat next to her and together we rebuilt her arrangement laughing the whole time. Once she let go of "perfect" and she let her creativity flow and just have fun the whole thing came together and she was so happy!

You’re coming up to your third year in business, congrats! What would you say is your #1 tip for other female entrepreneurs?

Motherhood taught me that in order to be successful you need to be extremely flexible. Things don't always go the right way but in the end everything works out! When you start your business really hit the ground running hard. As soon as you develop your network, you will have a ton of bookings!

What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining AT and needs that extra boost?

This can truly be your dream job if you want it to be. Whether it is a part time side gig you're looking for or a full time #girlboss hustle, this business is what you make it. The Alice's Table community is so supportive and filled with inspiring women. I have made some great friendships and met so many amazing people through hosting these events. We share stories, laugh and I tell terrible corny jokes, it is always a good time!

Alright, now it's time for a few fun rapid-fire questions...it’s 5 ‘o'clock, what your drink of choice?

Give me a bubbly glass of prosecco anytime!

You’re hosting a girls night at your house, what’s your best tip?

I always like to whip up a batch of seasonal sangria for guests to enjoy when I'm hosting a party, I'm sort of known for it! My favorite summer go-to is a refreshing watermelon sangria.

It’s a beautiful Saturday, where can we find you?

I live just north of Boston and one of my all time favorite spots to visit is The Peabody Essex Museum. Fun fact - my husband and I got married there!

Last but not least, what’s your favorite flower?
